H1 — Before you begin
Confirm package integrity, choose an installation method (Trezor Suite desktop, Trezor Suite web, or supported browser), and have a pen and the recovery card ready. Trezor devices ship without firmware — you will install firmware during setup. Read all on-screen instructions carefully.
H2 — What you’ll need
- Your new Trezor device (Model T, Model One, or Trezor Safe series).
- A computer (Windows, macOS, Linux) or a Chrome-based browser for WebUSB.
- USB cable supplied with the device.
- Physical backup medium (recovery card) and pen. Do not store your recovery seed digitally.
H2 — Step-by-step setup (recommended flow)
- Go to the official start page: Visit
trezor.io/start
and select your device model to begin guided setup. - Download & verify Trezor Suite: Choose desktop or web; the desktop app is recommended for best compatibility. Follow on-screen verification steps.
- Plug in the device: Connect your Trezor with the supplied USB cable and follow Suite’s prompts (firmware install, device authentication).
- Install firmware: If prompted, install the latest firmware. This is normal and necessary — the device ships without firmware.
- Create a new wallet: On the device, choose to create a new wallet; set a PIN when asked.
- Write down the recovery seed: The device will display a recovery seed (word list). Copy it to the supplied recovery card(s). Confirm the seed when prompted. Never store the seed on a phone, photo, or online.
- Finalize and test: Verify balance and addresses using Trezor Suite; perform a small test transfer before moving large amounts.
H3 — Device checks & authenticity
During initial setup the Suite will perform a device authenticity check; confirm prompts on the device screen. If anything looks tampered with or suspicious, stop and contact official support.
H3 — PIN and passphrase
The device will ask you to create a PIN. Optionally, you can use a passphrase for an additional hidden wallet (advanced users). Be careful: a lost passphrase is equivalent to lost funds if that passphrase is required to open the wallet.
H2 — Recommended security practices (short list)
- Never enter your recovery seed into a computer or phone.
- Store the recovery seed physically in multiple secure locations if desired (avoid cloud/backups that are accessible online).
- Keep firmware and Suite updated from official sources only.
- Use official Trezor links — avoid search-engine redirects that might lead to phishing clones.
H3 — Troubleshooting & common prompts
If Trezor Suite reports a connectivity issue, try:
- Use a different USB cable/port (avoid hubs when possible).
- Install the desktop Suite if web-mode (WebUSB) behaves unexpectedly.
- Restart Suite and re-authenticate the device as prompted.
H4 — After setup: moving crypto safely
Start with a small transfer from your exchange to your Trezor address to confirm everything is working. Then proceed to move larger amounts when you are satisfied the wallet and backup are correct.
